In a public hearing held September 30, 2020, the Board of Trustees of the Mendocino Unified School District denied Caspar Creek’s July 10, 2020 petition to transition from a resource center of Pivot Charter School North Bay into a non-classroom based independent charter school authorized by Mendocino Unified under the exception provided by Education Code Section 47612.7(b)(1). MUSD’s reasons for the denial, and Caspar Creek’s responses to them, are represented in this document.
Following the decision to deny, the MUSD board directed staff to schedule meetings between an ad hoc committee consisting of MUSD board members Mark Morton and Michael Schaeffer and MUSD Superintendent Jason Morse to explore possibilities for Caspar Creek’s continuation.
